Mida Creek

Mida Creek

These 32 square km coves have wide and healthy beds of algae and corals, is home to many species of fish and feeds sea turtles, while in the mangroves small streams and coves provide a refuge for crabs and birdlife.

Mida is a stopping point for many migratory birds and a protected area essential for their survival. This makes it one of the most important and beautiful natural attractions on the Kenyan coast. Mida is most beautiful when explored by boat, cruising across the bay at sunset for an aperitif, with the sun turning the waters into gold and flocks of perched birds filling the sky. Flamingos are often seen feeding here.

The area is also amazing by kayak, with endless small canals and passages through the mangroves to explore where kingfishers hunt in the shallow waters where you’ll find eagles hidden in the trees above your head.

You can also take a stand up paddle board (SUP) across the creek or even take a guided ride through the bay waters with a life jacket, carried by the gentle tidal currents.

The central water is also ideal for water skiing and wakeboarding. Along the shore, a local community project, the Mida Creek Conservation Community, runs a crab farm and a local crab shack restaurant serving crab dishes, including its very popular crab samosas, on a boardwalk and on the bridge built between the mangroves overlooking the bay.
